eScape's Guide to Websites
Website Myths - I just need a basic site, my customers aren't technical
This is something we've heard time and time again. Not every company relies on the web for their business, take the case of most retail outlets. But that doesn't mean that your website can't offer support and an effective efficient communications platform. To our minds, the only people who don't need a web optimised or functional website are companies that don't need to increase their business. Which raises the question, why have one?
Myth 1- I don't need to be found
From Charities to consultants, banks, insurance providers, almost every business needs a website. Obviously if your business doesn't have a website right now, it's not dependent on it. Yet. But that doesn't mean it can't increase your business. It also, doesn't mean that you won't soon need to change. Look at Insurance - particularly car insurance and personal insurance, computer products, books - a whole host of products that prior to 1998 nobody thought they would need the internet but that's probably where half or more of those sectors sell - on the internet. And, for the most part Amazon and websites that sell online, like 123.ie, daft.ie and others do minimal off-line advertising (TV, print, radio) and rely on SEO.
Thought to keep in mind: Use of the internet is global and it increasingly includes all kinds of people, of all ages and backgrounds. Each year, more and more businesses and industry sectors will move onto the web.
